Identification and Placement
School districts are required to adhere to the CSDE English Learner/Multilingual Learner Identification Process for all students entering Grades K–12. Students in Grades K–12 identified as EL/ML are screened with the Digital Placement Test Materials listed on this page:
- Use the K–12 LAS Links Placement Test for all students
- As an alternative, use the PreLAS for PreK and kindergarten students
To review Connecticut-specific policies concerning EL/ML identification, please visit the CSDE English Language Proficiency Assessment
page.
Review the EL/ML identification process below to be sure to understand timelines and screening requirements mandated by the CSDE. Digital placement test materials are available to all districts free of charge. Note that PreLAS orders must be reviewed and approved by the CSDE.
